Online Therapy

Online Therapy

Online therapy (also referred to as telehealth, remote counseling, telepsychotherapy) can include messaging, instant chatting, phone call sessions, and video sessions. While having some forms available over the past 15 years or so, only recently has it become a widely accepted service option.

Most recently, regrettably due to the COVID19 pandemic, both clients and clinicians are now seeking online services as a preferred method of counseling.

Prior to this, however, multiple studies have found online services to be equally as effective as in-office, face-to-face treatment for a variety of ailments. According to https://www.psychologytoday.com/us a 2014 study published in the Journal of Affective Disorders found that online treatment was just as effective as face-to-face treatment for depression.

Also, a 2018 study published in the Journal of Psychological Disorders found that online cognitive behavioral therapy is, "effective, acceptable, and practical health care" for major depression, panic disorder, social anxiety disorder, and generalized anxiety disorder. Finally, another study published in 2014 in Behaviour Research and Therapy found that online cognitive behavioral therapy was effective in treating anxiety disorders. Treatment was cost-effective and the positive improvements were sustained at the one-year follow-up.
